Cooking food always gets kids attention. I teach agricultural education, directly dealing with the production of growing the food that we eat. This Food Science Lab equipment will open up so many doors for me to teach the kids as well as the kids to learn new cooking techniques at school and at home.
Pairing the Cosori Food Dehydrator and the Anova Sous Vide Cooker together will push kids ability to learn new ways to take products we produce on the farm and in the greenhouse and take to them to the plate, perfecting Field to Fork.
The Cosori Food Dehydrators will be used to take fresh meat and produce such as beef, venison, strawberries, bananas, apples, oranges, and other fruits, vegetables, and herbs and turn them into a new product. The jerky products are always a hit with the kids. Who doesn't love jerky? The fruit products could be used in trail mixes. The herbs that will be grown in our greenhouse will be used directly for seasoning the food going into the sous vide process. There are so many lessons that come from having this equipment in our Food Science Lab. Students get to learn about nutrition, recipes, weights, measuring, following instructions, and get to see products they grew end up directly on their plates. The vacuum sealer can be used not only for the sous vide process, but also helping marinate the meat to be put into the dehydrator. Having two dehydrators allows all of my kids to make their own recipe and sample their own end product.
The lessons don't just end with these pieces of equipment. Students can also be taught about proper packaging, labeling, and marketing techniques. This pushes students to want to learn more about the food we eat.
