Reading is the foundation to learning. If a student can not read, they will struggle in more areas than just reading. But how do you get a student interested in reading? First, the book can not be too hard or the student will get discouraged and stop. Second, the student has to be interested in the book. And last, they have to know strategies to understand what they are reading. As a teacher, it is my job to know what reading level every student is at. That is why I have chosen a wide range of books, from pre-k to 6th grade in my order. I have one student who can't recognize letters and I have one student who reads at a 5th grade level. I have also chose a variety of books to peak their interest. I have decided to start a book club with my different level reading groups. Students will be able to pick a book of their choice, at their reading level, and I will have fun activities for the students to do during our sessions. Students will be learning reading strategies all while having fun and making projects. From making food, doing arts and crafts, to making up songs and sayings. This will get the students excited about reading and learn how to understand what they are reading! Please help my classroom reach their highest potential and learn to love reading. Having this large variety of books will help my book club succeed.
