  • Large Colorful Rugs Create Welcoming, Cozy, Organized Classrooms!

    Funded May 6, 2024

Because you took time to learn about my project and decided to contribute funds my class of second graders have something special! They have a clean, huge, colorful and comfortable carpet space to learn, play, listen and grow where every child in the class can comfortably fit!

Thanks for helping me create a warm, welcoming, safe, clean, cozy area for my students! It is truly amazing how much such a simple addition can transform a space!

The biggest challenge now a days is how can I get them to transition off of it when it's time for lunch and recess! It's their favorite new place and mine also!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Crespin

  • Gaga Over Gaga Ball!

    Funded Apr 28, 2022

In preparation for our new playground, which will begin this summer, my students have been learning about how to play gaga ball and are thrilled to have a recreational game to play during recess that all of our friends can try out, no matter their age or abilities!

When I first showed them a picture of a gaga ball pit, they had no idea what it was. After I showed them videos of students playing the game, they because so excited to try it out and started asking if we could pretend we had one until then outside! It was pretty darn cute!

We thank you for thinking of us and our new playground!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Crespin

This classroom project was brought to life by Herb Kohl Philanthropies and 5 other donors.
Our students have recess on an extra large bare cement slab surrounded by a fence. It is too large to easily play most games with balls because all recess is spent running to fetch the ball, not playing cooperatively and having fun together. Gaga ball is a sport in which students play together inside a large octagon shape using a soft foam ball. The objective is to try and tag students with the soft foam ball below the waist, or avoid being tagged. Gaga ball is a sport which not only helps students expend extra energy in order to be ready to learn in the classroom, but it also teaches and reinforces several critical life skills skills. Gaga ball requires cooperation and sportsmanship from all players. It also allows student to improve their agility and hand eye coordination. These same skills are necessary for learning, with and from, others in the hands-on-learning classroom settings at Kluge school. Because gaga ball can be enjoyed by any student, no matter their age or abilities, inclusivity is another important skill taught and reinforced.
