Dr. Gary L. Landreth once said, "Toys are children's words and play is their language." It is my firm belief that children learn best through play-based and hands-on experiences! One of the most important aspects of our day is allowing children to explore academic concepts through the materials in our classroom. My students love constructing structures with blocks and other building materials. Block play creates a collaborative play experience which not only benefits the language development of my English language learners, but all of my students regardless of their home language. To encourage collaborative block play in our classroom construction area, I am requesting materials that ignite creative and inventive building opportunities! To help my students learn important social skills and language development during the pandemic, I could use large and small MagnaTiles, blocks, stacking stones, foam stacking bricks, small bricks, traffic signs and roadway system ! The possibilities are endless with these materials! My students will greatly benefit from being able to learn through block and construction play. This kind of play not only teaches important social skills, but it incorporates many math skills, science concepts, and encourages children to think critically about their work. I'm excited to be able to elevate their learning through these block play and construction materials!
