This year, every student in my classroom has not only enjoyed hands-on learning, but has been more successful this year by having it. In our district, we do not have a colored printer due to cost. Having a colored printer would make learning more efficient, more exciting, and more engaging! I have noticed that with the change of the science curriculum and the pandemic I have had to adjust not only what I teach, but the way that I teach it. In my middle school classroom we complete TONS of labs. I like to print off the lab work and laminate it so that I can sanitize the cards between class periods. Currently, I am printing off most things in black and white and then hand coloring the pages. This has been time consuming but also doesn't work with most of our curriculum, including fossils (you are unable to determine fossils/depth in black an white), planets (it is very difficult to tach the solar system without color), and photosynthesis (it all looks the same in gray scale), just to name a few. By having this printer in class, the students will also be able to use it for their own projects that they will present in person to their families twice a year. I have researched many printers and this one looks to be great for the classroom, as well as the amount of colored sheets it will print, so that it can remain lower cost to myself.
