Each year Sadler Arts Academy has a school wide event called STEM day after spring testing. This is a full day where classes rotate through exploratory stations. Due to precautions meant to stop the spread of COVID we have canceled many events over the last two years. We are planning to have the our STEM day again this year and set up stations outside. We usually spend less than $300 for supplies for the day and have found we can do a lot of learning with paper, tape, balloons, straws, aluminum foil and toothpicks. However, we would like to make this years event extra special with some help on funding through this donors choose project. If funded this project will provide a fabulous, fun and educational day of STEM activities for about 370 students. Children will be asked to observe, hypothesize then discover how a fortune teller fish works. They will investigate the mystery of rattlebacks, which are a strange physics toy that reverses direction after you spin it. There will be a laid back station stocked with discovery tubes. The favorite station of all will surely be the magnetism stations where students will first study the differences between permanent and electromagnets, then build their own 9 volt battery powered nail electromagnet. They will get to take their electromagnet and fortune teller fishes home as reminders of their fabulous day of STEM learning.
