These resources will be used in a variety of settings in which I manage on a daily basis - my classroom, my sensory room, and to use for my students as accommodations while in the general education classroom. With the unique structure of my classroom these resources will be used during guided and small groups for reading, writing, and math. Then, at times in the day where independent learning takes place. This may look like completing puzzles, completing fine motor tasks, and completing "task baskets," which are errorless tasks that are designed to improve functional skills, improve working habits, and develop confidence in their own abilities. To include a social / emotional area within the classroom that includes a calming area to self-regulate when they are overwhelmed and impacted by anxiety. Then, I have a free-choice play area which builds on expressive communication skills and sharing with peers. Last, I have a sensory room dedicated to serving ALL neurodiverse students within our elementary. Overall my classroom and sensory room is a pure labor of love as my team and I always seek to improve.
With these resources, my students will be able to further improve self-regulation skills, improve fine-motor skills, and expand their overall cognitive development with skills that will meaningfully impact them as they continue their educational journey and life-long transitions. When gazing through the requested resources, many of the items will be used to take my sensory room to the next echelon, which has been a goal of mine for several years as we have built it from the ground up. Unfortunately, once COVID-19 hit, my students have taken a set-back in social-emotional learning and other functional realms, which inhibits their ability to succeed in large and overwhelming situations, to include play activities. Please help me help them!
