The phonics/spelling games I chose for my project are specific to the skills my students need to master in first grade. My students enjoy learning through games and hands-on activities, so I know they will get excited to practice and hone the skills we have learned together through these games/activities. We also do write and wipe activities so often in the classroom for phonics, spelling, and even math practice. We use them for independent or group activities as well, so the write/wipe pockets and dry erase markers are something we will use every day in our classroom. I have always wanted more hands-on materials for science. We have science books, but I know my students would truly master their science standards if they had more real-life observations and experiments rather than just examples in a textbook. All the science materials I chose for my project are specific to first grade science standards. My students love setting goals for themselves or for the whole class and love to test their skills! That's why I think they would benefit from having stopwatches and game buzzers in the classroom. It would add so much motivation when reviewing and practicing their skills. Of course, math is no exception in needing hands-on learning activities for these great kids. All of the math materials I chose for my project are specific to first grade math standards and provide plenty of interactive practice with those standards.
