My students learn best in small groups. The materials I chose would enable them to work together in Centers. Centers would also enable me to work with individual students every day. These children need extra attention because they are so far behind other first graders in the state. Many of them are English Language Learners as well and need added support. With only a few months left in the school year, I need every possible moment with individual students if they are to learn to read and write. Phonics is key to their success.
