My students will be able to explore and enhance their learning in my classroom through the abundance of hands-on experiences. Many of my students come from poverty and do not have the basic needs that a 5 or 6-year-old should have in their daily lives. Donating would allow each child exposure to dramatic play items like costumes and dinosaurs. This would give them the opportunity to act out scenarios with the items and give them the opportunity to problem solve and express themselves which later on can benefit their academic success. The community helpers also tie in to a unit that I offer throughout the year so students can identify and recognize various jobs they see currently and can be in the future. Dinosaurs can tie into our science units and provide a great visualization. Other items like magnetic color, counting and alphabet mazes help strengthen their fine motor skills while giving them the chance to challenge their knowledge of colors, numbers, and through alphabet recognition. All of these items allow for a creative mindset as well as sparking an interest while breaking the cycle of poverty. My classroom provides a place where students can express themselves and believe in themselves. That all begins with their teacher believing in them!
