Students in broadcasting class are constantly working on projects, and one of the bottlenecks we encounter is not having enough cameras. The program is growing each year; We started with 8 in one class and now have over 30 in two classes. The bigger we grow, the more cameras I need to bring their projects to life and give them opportunities to work with semi- to professional equipment. Another camera would allow more student groups to create content or create a multi-camera setup in an on-campus studio.
This is critical now because of COVID-19. We didn't realize how often we need to seat an audience until we couldn't do it any longer. Band concerts, choir performances, homecoming assembly, spirit assembly, one-act play, speech and debate tournaments, NHS induction ceremony, JROTC awards, all-school awards, senior farewell are just the events happening in the auditorium. Volleyball, basketball, wrestling, etc. all have crowds in the gym yearlong. Some events had limited or zero seating options, meaning parents or stakeholders needing to see what our students create needed to watch it virtually. Our students had to adapt and learn quickly the first year. In order to keep from filling the entire gym with students, we managed to film and broadcast live to preserve the school's culture. We did the same for some JV sports, Unified sports and other events of interest to our MHS extended network. If anyone wanted to experience our school at a socially safe distance, we tried to facilitate it through broadcasting.
With another camera, we can offer more coverage of the great work all of our students are doing.
