Success With Stations- Creating Digital Citizens
Funded Feb 10, 2022This past year, we were hard at work using our new device and other supplies in the classroom. The cardstock and iPad quickly became crucial tools for our classroom stations. The cardstock allowed me to create stations which immediately create a colorful, fun environment for the kids to complete different literacy games and activities. The iPad added that extra technology piece that gives kids the engagement they need during our "technology station." The iPad has been able to let the kids use drag and drop stations, game board stations, and other digital stations that help them become better learners of all things literacy. Technology in the classroom is a great way to begin integrating tools such as google docs, slides, and other forms of technology that students will most likely run into in the future, whether it be at school or in future jobs. Technology is becoming the way of the world, and we are working on building those skills here in 5th grade to set them up for success in the future.
The most exciting thing about the new technology for my students is the size and portability of the device. They are used to Chrome books, but it's not always easy to create videos and film products using a portable laptop. However, the iPad has allowed the students to create digital video footage for presentations. In the regular classroom, students created a biography report, and they used the iPad to present their report to the students by projecting their videos and slideshows on the apple TV and using the iPad to control which slides appear when. They are learning valuable presentation skills with the use of this device, and it is small enough to be held while they present, which also allows them to move around to engage all of their audience!
Our News Club at school was a group that is benefitting from the new iPad and Apple TV, and they have especially warmed to this new technology! They use the iPad and a green screen to create short video footage to show to their peers at school, and they have been excelling! They are learning how to cut, paste, edit, and clip together different footage to create an edited, put-together news show they are super proud of!
With all these new and exciting adventures the stations and iPad bring to the classroom, we look forward to the increase in engagement and learning this upcoming school year, as well as many years to come! We cannot thank you enough for helping us in our journey to creating digital citizens!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hajek
