  • Plays for Acting and STEAM Lessons in the Drama Classroom

    Funded Dec 4, 2024

On behalf of the students, I would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation of scripts for our reading and performance program.

Your support has made a significant impact on my 8th and 9th-grade students, providing them with the opportunity to engage in creative expression and develop their reading and performance skills. These scripts will not only enhance their understanding of literature but also foster teamwork, confidence, and a love for the arts. Class sets of scripts are so valuable to use not only for performance but also for tech projects, practicing dramaturgy and increasing reading fluency.

I am excited to incorporate these materials into our curriculum and have enjoyed watching the students bring these stories to life. Your generosity inspires students to reach their full potential, and we are truly grateful for your commitment to their educational journey.

Thank you once again for your kindness and support. We look forward to keeping you updated on our progress and the wonderful performances that will emerge from your generous contribution.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cormell

  • Plays for Reading and Performance

    Funded Aug 12, 2023

My 8th and 9th grade students have been enjoying the resources that you provided. We have used the materials as classroom study and as performance materials. The books with scenes helped us make a vignette style show for public performance. The show was fun and energetic. The scenes allowed students to create original characters and gave opportunities to write in stage directions and study movement.

My advanced class is currently reading The Importance of being Earnest. They are enjoying making literacy connections. Some of the words they researched today were forte and cynical. It is a wonderful way to make connections to literacy that students really enjoy. We will be looking at the play through a historical lens tomorrow.

Thank you for the fantastic resources. Your donation is inspiring many young people. I am very grateful.”

    With gratitude,

  • In Class Acting Space and Sturdy Backdrop Holder for theatre.

    Funded Nov 5, 2022

The backdrop frame allowed us to create a beautiful stage picture with a 20' x 10' forested scene. The Theatre Arts students were so thrilled to be able to act in front of the wonderful backdrop. The frame is sturdy and can be used for years to come by purchasing different backdrops to make the stage look amazing.

Musical Theatre students are using the rolling classroom table daily. We are able to create and practice choreography by simply rolling the table out of the way to create a large area for dancing in the classroom. The choreographers often meet in my room for lunch to work on choreography and it has made it possible for us to quickly set up and get to work.

Humanities students are also enjoying the rolling table in the classroom. We are able to create difference configurations with ease that help create the most appropriate environment for our different projects. The table easily doubles as a student work table and presentation table.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cormell

  • The Arts Maintain a Sense of Community Even During Covid-19

    Funded Feb 8, 2022

The 3 chrome books that were funded in this project have provided a much needed resource in my classroom. Humanities students enjoy using the chrome books to research and collaborate on projects. My Humanities students love to work in groups to tackle complex issues and develop community based projects together. These students would not be able to create thoughtful projects without the internet as a resource in the classroom to research the problem, find out what has already been done about it and seek agency contacts to learn what needs still exist. They also use the chrome books to create presentations, make contacts to community leaders via email, and create videos to share about their chosen projects.

I also teach Theatre Arts and Musical Theatre. The students in these classes benefit most from having daily access to the internet. Research is a big part of creating believable characters and meaningful stage pictures. Students use the chrome books to research and collaborate on electronic idea boards and to create choreography videos. Thank you so much for funding this project!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cormell

The Arts, especially Theatre Arts, are all about community. Students in theatre become storytellers and practice humanity through living in the moment and practicing teamwork. During uncertain times, it is increasingly important to let students explore and create courageous characters that inspire others. Students feel valued when they have appropriate supplies. Chromebooks will allow students to collaborate on acting and writing projects that require research and careful set and costume development. Video editing and other technical aspects can also be incorporated into the curriculum if students have access to Chromebooks.
