3D Pens for Rural Student Enrichment
Funded Aug 18, 2023Since COVID, student engagement in my traditional classroom has been a struggle. Thanks to you and Donor's choose, the addition of 3D Pen technology has helped my students engage. Students are excited to come to class and hopeful that the lesson for that day involves the 3D pens. We use 3D pens in class to build upon our curriculum by reproducing particular computer science elements. For example, students can design a 3D mouse, or keyboard. Students can also design a new idea for these things. Students have spread the word about the technology we are using in class and students in other grades are excited to hear all about it and wishing they were in my class.
The students love that the pens are rechargeable and that they have many choices for colors of the filament that the pens use.
There are very few students who have been exposed to this technology before. They enjoy having their own device in class and using the device on their own to create. The quiet kids, the loud kids and kids of all the in-between are interested in using the pens.”

Rural Students need 3-D Printers!
Funded Nov 10, 2022Thanks to you, we have started our 3D Printing journey!
To help instill ownership in my classroom, I assigned the assembly of the 3D Printing machines to the students. They have been proud to be responsible for this step. Previously reluctant students are eager to contribute with this process. While I am right next to them, I have encouraged them to take one step at a time.
When the students walk in the classroom they are curious and intrigued to see the assembly process. Because they have ownership, they recognize the importance of being responsible and careful with and around the machines. Students who will be in the class next year have gotten word that we have cool technology and they are eager to get in my class next year too.
So far they have printed the installed project and are beginning to play with the applications that allow them to design their own print jobs. We are learning together. Some students are catching on quickly and because they are excited about the technology they help their classmates with the concepts. This technology has contributed to a collaboration learning environment.
I look forward to seeing what all they come up with.
We are incredibly thankful for your generosity to our classroom.”

Rural students need Virtual Reality Headsets!
Funded Feb 9, 2022My high school students eagerly awaited the day we were able to get the Oculus Quest 2 headsets all set up and ready to go. Most of them had never been able to experience the virtual world available to them before now.
Initially, I intended to mainly use the devices exploring the world and experiencing museums and employment reenactments. We have done that, but we are also using the devices for interactive play and as an opportunity to let loose and enjoy time together in the classroom.
COVID has caused a lot of stress for our teenagers and playing with these devices has eased their stress at school.
The high quality of these devices is impressive to the students. They are top of the line and the students are proud to have such nice equipment at their disposal.
I was excited to see a couple of my more introverted students jump out of their shell for their turns to play and experience the new excitement.
This donation has brought things to our classroom that they might never see or do in real life. We have explored the international space station, toured an art museum, visited a zoo and played a dozen games that bring out student creativity and eye hand coordination skills.
We have laughed a lot and I have heard my students exclaim "Wow this is so cool" more times than I can count. We thank you so much!”

Mrs. Wolford
