This project will help my students see their ideas come to life! The access to a 3D printer in my science classroom will allow my students to move from the role of student to scholar as they see the designs in their mind become models they can hold in their hands. Creativity is an integral part of science, and this printer will allow my students to combine their creativity with the skills and knowledge that they learn in the science classroom. Some of my students favorite projects have been building windmills that generate electricity, making musical instruments that show how sound waves work, and designing roller coasters to demonstrate Newton's laws of motion. Access to a 3D printer will allow students to continue projects like these that they love while learning skills in printing that will prepare them for various STEM careers. It is clear that students have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. I see the impact of this in my classroom as they desire to gain experiences that they didn't get to have when they were at home over the past several years. Science students in particular have missed out on some key time in the lab where they normally would have been completing science fair projects, lab investigations, and STEM design competitions. It is my desire to make up for some of this lost time by giving my students the ability to create through 3D printing.
