I teach a variety of science classes, each with its own needs. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, most of my students have been doing virtual learning since March 2019. We started the 2021 school year with in-person learning and I have been incorporating hands-on activities that students missed during virtual instruction. So far, students have greatly benefited from these activities through cooperative learning and inquiry.
This project aims to provide students with more materials so that they can continue exploring the core concepts in science. For my biology classes, I am requesting kits to aid students in understanding concepts of evolution, such as natural selection, and the classification of living organisms. I am also requesting a poster and coloring book for students who learn better through visual aids. For my biomedical health science class, I am requesting lab materials that go over clinical health care simulations, such as measuring blood glucose and lung capacity. I am also wanting my students to design a circulatory system using one of the kits requested. Finally, for my environmental science class, I am requesting materials that will help students determine soil quality that can be used for future projects. One of those projects that my environmental science students are wanting to use is a greenhouse, which can be done through the learning of determination of soil quality.
Each of these resources will greatly benefit all of the courses I teach and will help students understand those core concepts in science through inquiry, hands-on exploration, and collaborative learning.
