  • New Novels

    Funded Nov 2, 2022

New class sets of books will enable my students to continue their love of reading as well as master state standards we will apply through thematic units as we complete these novels. Most of our students are very passionate about reading. My goal is to increase their desire even more. For others, I am confident that new, fresh novels (The Outsiders and When You Reach Me) will plant a seed for those who struggle with reading. I chose books with characters they may possibly relate to and will build empathy and character through the trials and tribulations they experience in each story. There are so many lessons they can learn and apply. I plan to use these novels to teach state testing and life skills as we read. We are so grateful for the donations and appreciate your generosity and support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kiener

  • Design, Build, and Run a Taco Truck

    Funded Feb 9, 2022

The supplies you provided to my classroom have impacted my class in such a positive way! My students have had so much fun using the Sharpie markers, hot glue guns, hot glue sticks, card stock, large hole punch, printer, printer ink, paint brushes and paint for our Taco Truck unit. We used the printer and ink to print the templates for the taco trucks, the card stock, hot glue guns, and hot glue sticks to build the taco trucks, the large hole punch to punch out wheels, and the Sharpies, paint, and paint brushes to decorate them. They were so excited to receive it all and be able to use them! We reviewed so many skills in completing this amazing project! It all worked so well! Thank you so much! We are so grateful!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kiener

This classroom project was brought to life by Oklahoma State Department of Education.
My project is designing, measuring, building, and running taco trucks. The students will also create their own menus and take orders from other students and me. This project reviews measurement, perimeter, area, surface area, volume, angles, three-dimensional figures, money, adding, subtracting, multiplying whole numbers and decimals, and real-world math skills. We will end our unit with a taco truck tasting where students bring samples of one of their taco truck menu items for their homeroom to try. This project-based learning activity focuses on pushing students to create and design while using math skills, applying problem-solving skills, and collaborating with their classmates. The resources I’ve chosen for this grant are card stock to build the taco trucks out of, hot glue guns and hot glue to glue them together, a colored printer to print out taco truck pieces, graphics, accessories, and menus, markers for creating the graphics and names of their trucks, paint and paintbrushes to paint them, a circle punch for wheels, and a Polaroid and film to capture them with their designs to take home with them. I hope you can see my vision! Thank you for this opportunity and for taking the time to consider my project.
