This grant will provide the students in my classroom hands on manipulatives and puzzles for math and literacy centers. Early learners learn best using concrete manipulatives. These materials will help increase early math and literacy skills, increase opportunities for play based learning, increase fine motor skills, and teach students cause and effect. Utilizing these materials during center time will also provide my students opportunities to increase early social skills. My students are between the ages of three and five years-old (pre-K) and are all being served on IEPs. My program is an early intervention program designed for children with developmental delays. My students learn best with hands on activities and materials. This project will provide my students with engaging materials to increase early literacy and math skills. During the pandemic much emphasis has been put on digital resources, however early learners and children with developmental delays need concrete and engaging manipulatives and games and puzzles to maximize learning. Also, so much early socialization was delayed during the pandemic, utilizing the materials in this grant during centers will allow my students opportunities to engage in early social skills like turn-taking and sharing.
