As the pandemic has progressed, we have seen the need for social and emotional development in children, as well as motion in learning, become even more critical than ever before. During the pandemic, students have spent significant time behind a screen and even students in upper elementary grades significantly benefit from flexible learning environments and mobility opportunities in the classroom. Carpet time and flexible seating allow for mobility and flexibility in the learning environment and are the primary purchases of this project. By replacing our carpet and purchasing more lap desks, students will be able to have more flexibility seating opportunities available in our learning environment during independent practice and small group work, as well as a space to move and interact during whole group discussion. This project will allow students to practice appropriate interactions academically and socially. Secondly, as a result of the pandemic, students have become ever technologically savvy which allows for excellent use in education, however this technology is not always accessible and usable for students in the classroom. We are blessed to have the opportunity of technology, but need to make this technology usable by our students in class. The use of headphones in the classroom, styluses, and charging stations will help make technology more usable and accessible for all students, all the time.
