Thank you so much for donating the funds necessary for me to complete my project. By donating, you have assisted me in broadening the minds of my students.

I look forward to using these books during our unit on World War II. I truly believe the will really enjoy it.”

  • US History Classroom Library

    Funded Feb 4, 2022

Thank you so much for allowing me to purchase literature to help make history come alive for my students. We have read The Jungle during our unit over the Progressive Era. Many of my students couldn't believe the horrors that existed during that time for many people. It's one thing to be taught what happened, but to read about it from an author of that time makes the events real to my teenagers. It is so easy for them to become wrapped up in their own lives without the interest or ability to look outside themselves. This book has changed that. My students have questioned what protections currently exist for workers. They have put themselves in the shoes of those workers from the Progressive Era and imagined what it would be like to live at the turn of the century. Many of my students have to help their parents support the family. They can empathize with the child laborers of this time period.

We will continue to read these books throughout the year. I am so grateful my students have been given this opportunity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rice

My students' reading level has suffered in light of the current pandemic. I would like to create a classroom library for my high school history students. These books, several of them about teenagers like my students, will help me make history come alive for them. We will read them together as a class at appropriate times in our curriculum. For instance, the book Warriors Don't Cry fits perfectly in our US History curriculum when we cover the Civil Rights Movement. This particular book is about the desegregation of high schools.
