My 1st graders have never experienced a school year that was not affected by the pandemic. This has led them to have limited social interactions with their peers, given them limited authentic school experiences, and created gaps in student levels. The items I have chosen can help tremendously with pandemic learning. The flexible seating options and classroom rug will provide comfortable areas for students to spread out and remained distanced while reading, working on tasks, and using technology. Having spaces in the classroom, where they feel comfortable will increase their ability to stay on task, leading to a more productive learning environment. The pandemic has caused students to miss out on many traditional learning experiences. This has created gaps in over-all achievement and more so than ever before, students are learning at all different levels. The headphones will allow students to work independently on their own learning level when using Ipads without disturbing other students who are working in small groups with the teacher. And lastly, the STEM items will provide new opportunities for students to work together collaboratively. Something they have missed out on while quarantined and social distanced. These items will not only let them focus on science and math concepts; but also, help develop and apply skills to manage their peer relationships and increase problem solving skills for both the classroom and real life situations.
