The pandemic has taken much and changed everyday life for everyone, and that does not exclude our students. Studies have shown that children are more anxious and have more trouble with their focus as a result of all the change going on around them. Whether we think so or not, they have been affected by this pandemic greatly. My goal is to create a safe and comfortable place that my students enjoy and can thrive in. I believe making the change to flexible seating is the answer for that in my classroom. Having this option for students will create an atmosphere for learning by eliminating feelings of anxiety that can be created in a “traditional” classroom. Flexible seating gives students power in the choice that they have to essentially create their own environment for that day, as well as the flexibility to get to create that for themselves again in a new space the next day and so on. This dynamic encourages creativity as well as collaboration and communication between students. This is a way for students to feel excited and empowered about school and learning.
