The COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it special challenges in meeting the needs of all children. My classroom reading levels range from first grade to middle school. Meeting the needs of all of my readers requires systematic and explicit reading instruction in both small group and whole group learning environments. The following items were gathered to provide individualized instruction, enhance student learning, and to allow us to organize our classroom within our small group time. I-pads are used daily in my classroom to help differentiate practice during center time. Unfortunately not every student has earphones, which can be distracting to other students working near them. Headphones will allow students to focus on their work and to keep from distracting others. I have many students who have been identified with dyslexia and who have special needs. Dry erase items and the magnetic wands with chips will be used to teach phonemic awareness and phonics during small group or individualized instruction. Noise-canceling headphones will help my autistic students read silently and focus on their learning. The document camera will allow me to model annotating, coding, and distinguishing between various types of text. “Time for Kids” will allow students to explore the nonfiction genre and new books will allow to students to find books on their level. Finally, organizational items and furniture will allow students to quickly find what they need and have space to thrive in their learning environment. Currently, we are very crowded around our small horseshoe table and stacking stools will provide more space for the students to sit. The rolling cart will act as an organizational tool for the headphones and clipboards will be used when students are working in centers. Please help me reach all of the unique learners in my classroom by funding my project. Thank you!
