One of the things that I have noticed this school year with my students is there has been some struggles in writing. We complete some of our school work on our iPads and students use their finger to write on their devices. Although we do have a daily time devoted to paper and pencil writing, I would like to provide more opportunities for them to practice their writing skills. The writing center station will help me to add an additional activity during center time where students can practice their writing skills. In this center I would like to provide weekly sight words and letter templates where students can practice their handwriting. I feel that due to the pandemic we have had to be ready to teach our students "virtually," but due to using our devices our young learners are not practicing their handwriting skills. I feel this writing center will help my students to become confident writers. During this time it is vital to provide developmentally appropriate activities for our young learners. My students benefit more from hands-on activities rather than virtual activities. The Beginning Sounds and Vowel Sounds sorting tiles will help with students practicing and applying their early reading skills during center time. We are fortunate to have a light table in our classroom and the light table pegs and pegboard sets will add an additional resource to use with our table. My goal is to make every lesson, activity, and center station as engaging and exciting as I can. By funding this project my students will receive amazing hands on materials that will keep them engaged and excited about learning.
