As a result of the pandemic, teaching and engaging in Shakespeare has been non-project based and more of a read this and answer that type of learning. To help enhance my students’ Shakespeare experience, I would love to implement this mock Julius Caesar Election project. Students will be assigned to a main character in Julius Caesar, where they will become that character’s campaign manager. They will, as a group, create campaign posters and a commercial promoting their candidate. The days before the election, students will be able to sway the vote with treats, stickers, etc. To enhance this project, I would love for students to be able to create buttons or stickers for their candidate to pass out to the voters, which will be the ninth grade history classes. I feel like engaging in actual campaign strategies will make this mock election more realistic and something they will remember from this unit of learning. To bring this project to realization, I would love to get a button maker, sticker maker, poster board, easel for display, heavy duty markers, and a mobile cart to move the button and sticker maker around the room as students are using it. I believe both this button and sticker maker will bring this mock election to life and enhance the students Shakespeare experience.
