I know this project is rather expensive. However, I thought I might later regret not going all out to pursue this dream. And not only has this been a dream but also a necessity for my students since I began my career as a teacher. I meet with my students daily in a small group setting. I group my students up based on reading level. I meet with 5 groups a day, each group averaging out a different level. I have below, average, and high groups, as do all teachers. Differentiating small groups, based on student needs, is time-consuming enough, but let's talk about all the printing! Our district has many resources to differentiate learning, but the hassle, time, paper, and money it takes to print stories and activities for each student in each group, whew! It's a lot.
If only students had an iPad that allowed them to log in to the resource right at our table! So accessible, easy, and fun! In our generation, tablets are a hit - we all know this. I would like to shift students' minds to not only love tablets for their games but also for reading! I know most of my students have family shared tablets at home, but they probably don't know how to engage in online books. When they become familiar with the daily use of iPads during our reading block, I can only imagine the excitement they will have for it at home too!
My plan is to use these iPads for small reading groups every day. Students will come to our group table and log in to their accounts to access the books we will be using for that day. The best part is that the books online will be differentiated for them at their own level! So exciting to think about!
