Covid-19 has directly impacted each and every student in my classroom in some way or another for their entire school career. They have not experienced a “normal” school year without some aspect of the pandemic, whether it be a shortened academic year, missed direct instruction, virtual learning, masking, quarantining or sickness. To help my students amid the pandemic I could use Morning Tubs to set a positive tone and get them off to a great start each morning, providing them with engaging opportunities to make up for lost learning of valuable hands-on critical thinking and cooperative learning experiences.
When young learners are given hands-on literacy, math and STEM activities they are more engaged in their overall learning experience. Morning Tubs are meaningful hands-on activities that get students excited to come to school, allow the teacher to complete tasks such as greeting students, communicating with parents, collecting folders and taking attendance, while the students are fully engaged in their own learning. Morning Tubs encourage critical thinking and problem solving and allow students to explore, communicate and collaborate with their peers in a meaningful engaging way. These Morning Tub activities also promote sensory integration, fine motor skills and social emotional development. During Morning Tub time my students will be fully engaged in creative complex tasks that will challenge them to think like inventors. Kinesthetic, spatial and logical learners will all love exploring the endless possibilities that these Morning Tubs will provide.
