  • Dissecting the Science of Life

    Funded Nov 5, 2022

Thank you for your support in making these projects possible for my students. I know these resources will go a long way in helping my students achieving their objectives in class. Without your support none of this would have been possible, my students and I are extremely grateful for your help.”

    With gratitude,

    Coach Knapp

This classroom project was brought to life by Oklahoma State Department of Education.
  • Inquisitive Scientific Minds Want to Know

    Funded Feb 9, 2022

I just wanted to say how much your support is appreciated. These resources will impact my classes and all of my students for years to come. There is no substitute for hands-on learning in a classroom and these resources will provide me with lots of opportunities to do just that.”

    With gratitude,

    Coach Knapp

Over the past two years, all aspects of education have transitioned from in-person learning to virtual, and in some cases a hybrid of the two models. During virtual learning since the onset of COVID 19, many students did not have access to hands-on science learning. While students may have been given handouts to read about science, they missed out on actually getting to do science. Exploring science through hands-on manipulation with tools and experiences in lab settings is critical for helping students solidify understanding of science concepts and connect the understanding in the classroom to real-world phenomena. Having access to science tools, models, and scientific activities will allow me to expose my students to many science concepts and build their creative thinking and problem-solving skills. My dream is to instill a love for science and to foster creative thinking, problem-solving, and students' confidence in themselves as young scientists. To bring my dream learning experiences to life, I’d love to get a hands-on kit so students can experience Newton's laws of motion. Using the various parts of the kits, students could observe the effects of kinetic and potential energy and see first-hand how energy is transformed from one form to the other. As we transition to life science and learn about cells, my students would love to see three-dimensional cells and get to manipulate the parts and see how they all fit together to compose a cell. Having the chance to touch and manipulate cell parts will help students make connections between structure and function. Models, such as a 3-D model of heart will help students connect ideas learned during the cell unit to organs and systems in the human body. Expanding into ecosystems, my students would get to explore ecosystems using an Ecosystem Kit by building a terrarium/aquarium.
