It is my purpose to provide these students with activities that will stimulate fun, while learning. These resources will allow my students to focus their attention on positive learning while detaching from the reality of the world around them if just for a little while, allowing them to be kids at play while still learning.
My project incorporates robotics into the classroom, allowing everyone to be involved, using one universal language. Students will be able to build robots, write computer code, gain confidence in numeracy and literacy skills — all while learning about teamwork and how to handle setbacks and mistakes.
At this time, I use a variety of programming tools to help students learn in the classroom, but I would like to go a step further and use robotics to bring their programming skills from their iPads to life. Using Coding Robots would allow students to do just that.
Robotics within the classroom embraces hands-on learning through making, building, creating, and collaborating. Bringing this type of fun learning to the classroom puts an emphasis on critical thinking, creativity, and experimentation. It gets all students involved as it creates a natural bridge to allow students to build friendships that they might not otherwise feel comfortable with.
We live in a digital age, in which technology has become an essential part of our lives. I feel that this technology should be put to better use - to empower our students, not as purely entertainment. There are many advantages of learning to code at the elementary level. By empowering our students to code, they build mastery skills in sequencing, counting, problem solving, logical thinking, cause and effect, and critical thinking. They learn to express themselves and their personalities through coding as they find new exciting ways to create while decreasing their anxiety.
