Because of the pandemic, students haven't been able to work in groups and have missed an important piece of learning- collaboration! I like to use activities that give my students the opportunity to work and collaborate together. Collaboration teaches them to listen to one another, to question ideas, and to ask good questions. It also helps develop higher-level thinking skills and it increases students' confidence and self-esteem. Collaborative learning allows my students to learn in a way that is fun and effective. Using games and puzzles requires my students to work together, listen, share ideas, and problem solve. It’s amazing to watch them work through a problem together and learn from each other. The goal of having students accomplish tasks together is to help them understand the steps of solving a problem and promote deeper learning through doing. Students will utilize the skills they learned while playing games or working on puzzles when they are grouped together for reading articles from the Scholastic Scope magazines. After reading an article, students will discuss the topic, ask questions, summarize, and then research one question they have after reading.
