Every teacher knows the importance of a classroom that has structure, organization, and routine. While there are many variables I am not in control of- the size of my class, where my students are academically when they begin the year, curriculum, mandates, distance learning, etc. There is one thing I have control over regardless of the circumstances of any school year. I can do my best to create a cohesive classroom environment.
In order to be the most effective teacher I can be, I need systems of organization to plan for instruction. Further, I need to know exactly where everything in my classroom is so that I am prepared to teach content no matter the medium (in person, distance, hybrid).
Each of these items serves a specific purpose in planning instruction for students. The plastic file boxes will organize my seasonal and skill-specific books. The Sterilite containers will organize my math manipulatives by skill. The dry erase boards and individual erasers will be used in guided practice math lessons and a way for me to use formative assessments as I teach and adjust instruction. The putty will be used to hang mini-lesson posters and references that I routinely change upon unit. The air purifier serves a CRITICAL role in keeping our classroom clean, free of dust and allergens, and fresh. Because I work in an older building that has had a leaky roof, our room is musty and causes seasonal allergies to worsen in my students. This can lead to many absences and lost learning opportunities. The easel will give me additional whiteboard space to teach mini-lessons and store our class clipboards and dry erase boards for lessons.
