  • Learning Science with STEM

    Funded Aug 12, 2023

I can not thank you enough for your generosity to make my project come to life. Each and every item is being put to good use weekly by these hard working students.

Everything we have from this project is teaching something and requiring students to work as a team too. The National Geographic Marble Run has been a huge hit- multiple students can play at a time and they are learning all about energy and chain reactions without even realizing it! Same goes for Gravitrax- it's amazing to watch them come together to make something big and learn about the effects of energy. Again, I love that they are learning and playing with each item we received, all at the same time!

None of this is possible without you, so thank you again for making this year wonderful for my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Heard

  • Making Math Fun!

    Funded Feb 4, 2022

My students were thrilled to see the boxes coming in with all their new learning materials! They wanted to know everything about each item I unpacked as they came out of the box. Thankfully, my fourth graders from the 2021-2022 school year were able to use everything and had a great time learning new games while reinforcing skills learned.

My new student for this school year are already asking questions about all the items on my shelves. I've explained we will get to use it all in due time. They can't wait! Having these items at the beginning of the school year will help so much! Thank you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Heard

To help my students learn amid the pandemic I could use more hands on manipulatives and activities that are fun! Students, unfortunately, are missing so much school nowadays due to sickness that pencil and paper isn’t cutting it anymore-they need hands on activites now more than ever. School is hard enough for students WHEN they are able to be present everyday-I would love to incorporate more games and activities that reinforce what we are learning. Shut the Box is an easy game that reinforces math facts. Memorizing these facts is imperative as we use them in almost everything we do from the beginning to the end of our school year! Memorization is key- it makes the new skills I teach easier to understand. It can be played with 1-4 players which also encourages social skills between my young students. I have many students and I feel they could greatly benefit from having more than one game so multiple students can play together. The fraction war card game is fantastic for comparing fractions! They can use their white boards and expo markers to check their answers. Learning mixed with fun, we can't go wrong! The polyhedral dice are wonderful for multiplication and division games between students as well. They can do this with multiple student involvement, again promoting social skills while learning at the same time. My students love math mystery packets and escape rooms which is why I chose "Mathological Liar". These types of games force them to think outside the box while using math skills all at the same time! We are always in need of basic supplies such as scissors, expos, and glue sticks. We use them all just about daily for math-we go through a lot!
