Covid-19 has produced additional challenges for all of our students. With a change in their schedules, teachers, paraprofessionals, and other students due to absences and quarantines our students may become dis-regulated and need a momentary break from their classroom. A well equipped sensory room (with various textures and movement strategies) will enable them access to different sensory tools in order to return to their classrooms with increased focus and attention to task which in turn will improve their academic performance. Students from any classroom would be able to access the sensory room. The sensory room would provide appropriate and personalized stimulation and help them learn to respond appropriately to others. The enhanced learning would help them engage different areas of the brain. The stimulation helps with improving information retention. The time in a sensory room will help students improve their visual, auditory, tactile, and gross motor skills. Students would learn to self-regulate their behaviors that will ultimately improve their focus. As a result of a visit to the sensory room the students goals are to return to their classroom. The use of the equipment ordered will enable them to learn to regulate their brain's reactions to external stimuli by developing coping strategies, increased calm and focus in order to return to active learning. We are asking our generous donors to help equip our room with this equipment that we have requested in order to increase our students' independence.
