To help my students learn amid the pandemic, I could use tools to engage my students in learning and give them a reason to want to come to school. It will allow them to work with a team and to be a part of something with a larger purpose than themselves. We need items to help students think outside the box and allow them to explore their creativity. This is where a Cricut Maker will come into play. Our art, life skills, math, and finance classes will work together to create anything they can imagine.
To make an upcoming unit more engaging, my students would love to collaborate with the math and finance classes. We change classes every 9 weeks. Depending on the group of students and their interests, one group may come up with the school t-shirt, while another may design thank you notes to send to veterans on Veterans day, and still another may design ornaments to take and color with students at another school. There is no limit to what we could do when we pair with not only our class, but our school, and surrounding schools and daycares.
To bring my dream learning activity to life, I’d love to get the students working on these projects engaged and help them build their skills. They can take these skills and apply for a job or learn how to create their own side business. Many of our students are already working while in school. This would help them to start exploring new ideas and what side of the working force they may want to join. Do they like designing, crunching numbers, planning, coming up with ideas? This project will help them explore what it takes to brainstorm ideas, communicate with others, and see it come alive.
