  • Spreading Cultural Appreciation

    Funded Aug 19, 2023

My students have enjoyed using all of the materials you helped provide for them! They are able to get up and move around the classroom and hallways while doing their assignments by using the clipboards. They have also enjoyed playing the card games while learning a new language!

Music fills our hallway during every passing period with the portable speaker. I am able to provide a warm and inviting environment as they enter my classroom.

The biggest impact was used for our Spanish Club's 'Mummy and Me' dance. We invited members of the community to a dance hosted at our school to raise money for our club. We used the decorations throughout different areas of the school for the event. We also provided other fun things such as glow sticks for each family. None of this would have been possible without your support!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Carpenter

  • Making Languages Fun!

    Funded Nov 5, 2022

With all of the materials I have received, I have been able to provide a learning environment that captures the attention of my students, and keeps them engaged. In many of the books I have found numerous new ideas for activities that enrich my students' learning. They enjoy reading stories in Spanish, and putting on the skits in front of the class.

The resource my students were the most excited about was the Jenga games. They enjoy learning while they play, and they are more willing to participate. They always request to play this game and the other games I have been able to make with the card stock I received.

I have been able to hang up a few of the inspirational posters, and am planning to have my Spanish club members hang the others in the hallway to brighten it up and pique other students' interests into learning the language. Thank you again for all of these wonderful resources you have provided for me and my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Carpenter

  • ¡Olé! Enhancing Spanish Class by Cultivating Culture!

    Funded Feb 4, 2022

It has been wonderful to see how my students' faces light up when they find their name on the new birthday poster. They feel like they are important to me, and this helps build rapport with them. They are able to feel welcome in my classroom, and I am able to provide the best learning environment for them.

The privacy dividers have worked wonders! My classes have many students in them, and they don't have a lot of room. These dividers provide a space for them when taking exams. It also helps prevent the spread of germs!

I have made many new signs for my classroom, and they are used daily! My students are able to quickly locate a needed verb or vocabulary word that they can use in a conversation. I have also made several games and hands on activities. My students have made comments about how much they enjoy my class because they don't sit and look at a computer the entire time. They are able to use manipulatives to enhance their learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Carpenter

Our once small town is growing exponentially and so are the class sizes. It is difficult to maintain a safe social distance in a classroom with a large number of students. In my classroom, the students sit at tables instead of desks. The privacy desk shields will provide protection from possibly spreading germs to neighboring students. It will also provide privacy for students and reduce the number of 'wandering' eyes when taking tests in close, cramped quarters. My students have been through a lot in the last couple of years, and deserve a welcoming learning environment. I can provide this by decorating with bright posters that can be personalized like the birthday poster. I love seeing their faces light up when I surprise them just by saying, "Happy birthday!" It builds better relationships when teachers take the time to add little personal touches to their classes. Our Spanish department does not have enough whiteboards for every teacher. I have borrowed some from other teachers in the past, and have noticed a dramatic increase in the engagement of my students. I am able to easily and quickly assess how well they are understanding the lesson by having them translate words or write simple "sí" or "no" answers to questions that I ask in Spanish. I would love to have access to enough whiteboards so that I can use them more often. In the unfortunate event that our school has to go virtual, students will be able to read ¿Qué tal? magazine digitally. These entertaining magazines will keep students' attention if they are learning at home. They will still be able to read in the target language while learning about current cultural topics in Spanish-speaking countries.
