To help my students learn amid the pandemic, I could use tools to help with self regulation for students who have experienced trauma. With rhythm, we are reaching patterns of the brain through embedding rhythm to develop life long self regulatory patterns. They can sit in the rocking chairs to help them focus on their work and take their mind off their trauma or pull it up next to the table with Legos and they will be self regulating while also releasing stress by building with LEGOS. To make an upcoming unit more engaging, my students would love to incorporate rhythm in many forms in the classroom including a slow movement such as swaying, moving, or rhythmic rocking. The LEGOScan be used in a variety of ways from deescalating after a traumatic event, play, working on math skills such as finding the area or fractions, building models in Science, or designing things they may be reading about in English. Any class that needs the LEGOS will be able to use them. To bring my dream learning activity to life, I’d love to get students to learn self regulation techniques which will be a lifelong skill.
