Due to being out of school because of the pandemic and other personal oppositions, many of our students are behind academically in reading. We have noticed a higher portion of students entering Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades without letter recognition and an inability to comprehend what they are reading. We want to give them multiple exposures to unfamiliar words so the words become familiar and easy to comprehend. We will employ the "I Do, We Do, You Do" method. I will write the unfamiliar word on the board. We will look at each letter in the word, tap out each sound and blend the sounds to say the word together. Then, the students will use the magnetic white boards and magnetic letter tiles to build the word. We will discuss the meaning of the word to help with comprehension. The students will then use the markers to write the word. We will look through the passage and find the unfamiliar word. The students will underline the word and read it in isolation. We will then read the passage and they will see the word in context. These activities will give the students multiple exposures to the word so they can read it independently when they read the passage at home.
