  • Write This Way : An Emotional Journal Project

    Funded Jun 27, 2022

I just want to take a few minutes and let you know what this is going to do for the students in my class this year. With your generous donations to my project I hope to support their mental health in a positive way.

Students need to write every day. They need to practice their penmanship as well as expressing their ideas. These particular journals will reinforce correct handwriting and give them a space to be creative and draw a picture. Most journals do not have the primary lines or the free space to draw.

However, the exciting thing I want to do with these journals is connect with the student. I would like to create a dialogue with the student to share feeling or whatever they would like to share with me. These journals will be a safe place for student and teacher to connect.

Thank you again for supporting me and this project I couldn't have done it without you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bryant

  • Bring Back Books for My Bookworms

    Funded Feb 8, 2022

I want to take a few minutes and tell you how much I appreciate your help with getting books into my scholars hands. I love that people care to help us teachers love and provide quality materials to foster the learning of students. My scholars have throughly enjoyed getting their hands on these new books, they have stepped up their I independent reading, and had the opportunity to read things they wouldn't picture themselves reading.

Let me tell you first they love seeing new books coming into our classroom. Yes I say our classroom because we are a family and it's theirs too. Some of my scholars don't have books at home for them to read so the more books I have in my library for them to have access to the better.

Second, with your help my scholars have really stepped up their independent reading. I have scholars reading when they have any spare time. A few scholars are reading during lunch while they are eating or choosing to read during inside recess even. They just can't wait to finish and pick another book. They love the series books because the story doesn't stop and they can move onto the next book.

The last thing I wanted you to know is that these scholars are reading things they would have never pictured themselves reading. Their reading levels are going up because they are reading more and different types of books. The more children read the better their vocabulary gets and comprehension so they can move up in levels. A great number of my scholars are very low readers and strive to read the next level of books. Some of them couldn't picture themselves reading higher levels but they are with your help.

Thank you so much for your support. These struggling readers are improving so much because of your generosity to help a first year teacher get books into her scholars hand. These books will impact scholars for many years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Bryant

I want my scholars to fall in love with reading. Second grade is a critical time to capture the love of reading. It’s so important to me that my scholars find something they are interested in while in my class. If I can instill the love of reading in them it will forever change my particular scholars. For the most part my scholars have rough home lives. If I can get them to fall in love with reading, they will have a better chance of being successful in their academic careers as well as wanting to stay in school. I understand they can always go to the library, however, because of the pandemic my class only gets to go to the library once a week and get 1-2 books. Plus, a lot of things are digital these days. I feel that there is no replacing the feeling of holding a book, seeing the pictures up close, and physically turning the page adds to the satisfaction of getting to the end. It creates a bond between the book and the reader. Books online are a great tool, but they can’t replace a good ole fashioned book. I call my scholars Bookworms when it comes to independent reading. They love it. I reward them with praise and a gummy worm from my “Bookworm” jar when they read, take an AR test, and pass! A bookworm for my Bookworms. I want more books to expand and create a class library for my Bookworms. I need books to support social, emotional, and well-being of kids. I have scholars that have been virtual and have had a lot of isolation in the past due to the pandemic.
