Funded Feb 2, 2022We have loved using the VR's in our Spanish classroom! We have been able to use the VR's for several activities so far. The student's favorite activities that include the VR's are the lock box activities that I have created. For example, one lock box activity was centered around getting to know Peru. In a lock box activity, students are given a problem and are guided to find answers using the clues and information around the room to solve the problem. One of the clues leads to the students using a VR to explore Machu Picchu to find the next clue. The students learn so much from these activities and are able to explore places they may never be able to in real life, and it is so much fun for them!
Many of the students have never used a VR before so are completely in shock about how realistic everything looks. They have so much fun exploring different places and being able to compare and contrast different areas to where they live. They love how they feel like they are in their own little world, transported to this new place they've never been.
While conducting this particular lockbox activity, I was happy to see the excitement that came from the kids that have hispanic backgrounds but may or may not have ever been to their native countries. One particular girl kept saying how beautiful it was and how she wanted to go there one day. Just seeing their excitement and how proud they were to say their family came from there or from another Spanish speaking country was so fun. We love having VR's in our classroom! Thank you!!”
