During the pandemic my students have been in and out of school. As third graders they have struggled with basic reading and math skills along with staying engaged during lessons. Many of my students would benefit from hands-on activities and the ability to move in constructive ways within the classroom. Through flexible seating, math manipulatives, and educational games my students can become more engaged learners while continuously practicing basic reading and math skills. These materials will help my students find seating options that will benefit their learning and allow them to stay on task for longer periods of time. The manipulatives and games will help my students continue to fill gaps they have had due to the pandemic. My students are all on free and reduced lunch and we are a title 1 school. I have a diverse group of students including Hispanic, African American, and Marshallese students. They each bring their own unique perspective to the classroom, but they also have outside challenges that can make learning difficult. Amid the pandemic many struggled to complete work and as a result they have many gaps in their education that need to be filled. As a result of this project my students will be more engaged learners. They will have more tools within the classroom to find the right seating option for them which will allow them to be active learners and distraction free. They will also have access to educational games, books, and manipulatives that will help them develop a deeper understanding of reading and math concepts that can be a struggle for them. I want each of my students to be successful this year despite the challenges of the pandemic, and these resources will go a long way in helping each of them.
