While we are back in in-person learning my students are burnt out from being virtual for so long. My goal is to change that. My hopes with this project is to reignite their fire, passion and desire for learning, growing and developing. This is a multi part project that I am excited to get into my students hands. The first project I hope to introduce to my classes is a butterfly classroom kit. This will allow them to take responsibility into their own hands to not only care for these beautiful creatures but to also document it and be a real scientist. The next project actually goes hand in hand with this one because we will be germinating and growing wildflower varieties to offer as a place for these beautiful butterflies to spend time at. After we grow our first batch for the butterflies we will be taking the experiment to a second step and have our students come up with their own independent variables and see if we can calculate the perfect scenario for flower production. The second independent project will be for the students to incubate baby chicks. We will use the candle feature of the incubator to make sure our eggs are fertilized and developing nicely throughout the entire process. This will not only give the students a chance to take responsibility for caring for something but also give them an experience they have probably never been a part of before. For the third project we are asking for PTC paper and blood typing kits to explore genetics. Our fourth and final project is to dissect owl pellets so we can evaluate food chains more closely and apply it to real life.
