  • A Space for Every Learner

    Funded Aug 14, 2023

The curiosity of the big boxes that were delivered peaked the interest of my first-graders as they sat by the door. I waited until the weekend to unbox and begin setting up the new spaces and introduce the new "tools" for us to use the following Monday.

To say the chairs were a hit is an understatement. Students utilize them to read books and sit and talk out their feelings and emotions in a comfortable environment. The yoga mats allow students to lay, stretch and incorporate movement as a way to express their feelings and calm their bodies and minds.

Being able to provide areas where they can work independently in non-traditional spaces allows them the ability to move beyond the traditional table/chair model of classroom workspaces. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work. It also provides areas where they can utilize the spaces to calm their emotional responses to situations.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brewer

  • Listen, Reflect, Connect!

    Funded Nov 5, 2022

Thank you for allowing my 28 first graders to continue to grow in their love of literature. They are engaged with the words and pictures as the plot unfolds before them. This love of literature and use of the listening center is evident in their story sharing with one another and writing to connect to literature. By implementing a listening center in our classroom, my first graders have the opportunity to listen to a variety of literature that model fluency and allow students to work on comprehension skills. After listening to the story, they are able to reflect and connect what they have read with other learners, current learning objectives, and personal experiences.”

  • Charged Up and Ready to Learn in 1st Grade

    Funded Feb 7, 2022

How can I say thank you for giving my first graders the independence they so desperately needed? The charging stations have changed the atmosphere of the independent learning in our classroom. Students are able to access their own piece of technology when they need it without my assistance. This has been especially beneficial for my smaller students who could not access their Chromebooks before simply because they were out of their reach due to their height. With the use of color coded Velcro tabs, students are able to charge their own Chromebooks. This has eased any conflict and confusion between my students. Independence in their part of the learning process is a beautiful thing. Thank you for helping to provide that.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Brewer

Despite many of the negative impacts of COVID-19 in education, it has provided the opportunity for each of my students to have access to their own chrome book in class, rather than sharing only a few in years prior. By providing charging stations for the students, it will allow them to take responsibility in the upkeep and care of their chrome books in the classroom. It will help them take an active role in keeping the technology organized and make the chrome books more accessible for the students to retrieve +to complete assignments and practice skills on select programs without teacher assistance, as the current setup in class requires for the storage and charging of the class set of chrome books.
