Funded Aug 14, 2023The curiosity of the big boxes that were delivered peaked the interest of my first-graders as they sat by the door. I waited until the weekend to unbox and begin setting up the new spaces and introduce the new "tools" for us to use the following Monday.
To say the chairs were a hit is an understatement. Students utilize them to read books and sit and talk out their feelings and emotions in a comfortable environment. The yoga mats allow students to lay, stretch and incorporate movement as a way to express their feelings and calm their bodies and minds.
Being able to provide areas where they can work independently in non-traditional spaces allows them the ability to move beyond the traditional table/chair model of classroom workspaces. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work. It also provides areas where they can utilize the spaces to calm their emotional responses to situations.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Brewer
