These students love learning and being with their classmates. The past two years have affected the learning that they desire. They were in first grade when the last nine weeks of school ceased in 2020. Then in second grade, they were playing catch up amid quarantines and sicknesses in 2021. So as their third grade teacher in 2022, I see the excitement of being in class with their teacher and friends, although we have even more absences this year due to COVID-19. Unfortunately, I also see the gaps in their reading and math skills because of the pandemic. The resources of new iPads will help fill those gaps. Recently I asked my students what they like about our classroom in a morning meeting. Most students said they liked the iPads and Chromebooks, and of course their teacher too! Our iPads are ten years old and need updating. I am down from eight iPads to three that I use now. We use them every morning for math fact practice and for phonics/reading skills. The students love to go to the iPad table! I am looking forward to using them in small groups also. I plan on using the multiplication dry erase cards in small groups to reinforce their multiplication facts. Please consider helping me give my students a strong foundation in knowing their multiplication before moving on to fourth grade.
