The items I selected are to improve the climate of the band program. Students need reeds as often as any student needs a pencil. Some woodwind instruments simply cannot be played without it. Band classes are taught in the auditorium, there is not white board in there to teach my students music theory or simply give visual examples on the board. This limits my visual learners. My goal is to teach most effectively to all different types of students. Students will also be encouraged to come to the board and work on music notation.
My percussionists do not have any mallets. We make the best use of what we have, but sometimes students have to sit out until another student can share sticks. Rubber Pads will allow drummers to spend some time drumming off the actual drum, saving the drum head from being destroyed as often. Bass straps will allow the band to perform for our community. We cannot perform outside because there are no straps for my 30 percussionists to wear, play their drum, and march. The capes are for our 10 member dance team to wear over their uniforms during performances.
Lastly the mic system will allow us to begin our field show practices. With a band of 75 students it is difficult to carry my voice as the instructor through all the ranks and over the instruments. A headset will ensure all instructions are clear while learning our halftime shows on our large field. We practice 5 days a week, 2 hours a day. We also work through the summer. With these items we will bring music back into the community and the world.
