As we have learned, time in the classroom is incredibly valuable. As an Ag teacher I am grateful that my "classroom" can be anywhere. With this project, we will be revamping some raised beds built by previous classes to grow plants for both food and beautification. The tools and materials chosen for project will help my students gain a better understanding of how to design gardens, care for and grow a variety of plants. My hope is that students will gain skills and knowledge that can help them provide nutritious food for their families and community, but also help use creativity to design their own landscaping without the cost of hiring an outside company. Soil sampling kits and mason jars to determine soil texture and how to amend our garden soil. Sharpies, circle templates, rulers and yardsticks to develop landscape and garden design plans. Clipboards and steno pads to enable easy note-taking and movement between the classroom and garden. Headphones for independent research. Collapsible milk crates for efficient storage of the above listed materials.
