My job is to help implement behavior plans that increase functional communication and toleration skills in appropriate situations for each student. Social and emotional wellbeing through the pandemic has also been a focus as well as behavior.
Creating an environment that is enjoyable, stress free and highly engaging is the primary focus before new behavior goals can be met. This type of relaxing environment increases their motivation needed to work very hard at overcoming difficult communication deficits and setting new challenging goals. The activities that create this environment vary with each student. The items I propose to purchase will meet the varied needs of each of my students and will continue to meet the needs of future students I serve. Building kits (Lego and STEM), physical activity (corn hole, nerf foam balls, Glo ball, Aero Ring, Remote control cars, Toss Catch), music, art and mindfulness activities (Shero, Pens, Coloring Book, Origami, Pictionary Air Draw, squishes, stress balls) and short competitive games (Tenzi, Bop It,Skipbo, 5 Crowns, Uno, Oregon Trail, Pokemon, Connect 4), and healthy edibles (Beef Jerky) all will help create this environment and reinforce the difficult skills of toleration, appropriate communication and trust.
These selected items meet the very unique and individual behavioral needs of my students and serve to support this environment of trust and skill building. We celebrate their wins when they use their new skills in their classroom and discover the success for themselves!
