Students are unlike any group of students before. There is tremendous pressure from school, peers, and their future. Students are constantly using technology and have become zombies. This center would allow students to be kids again, take breaks from screens to interact with their peers, learn coping strategies to be more productive in life, and improve their overall wellness. Students need to reconnect with others and see the value in relationships and support groups. In health class, we schedule social-emotional learning opportunities where students are able to take breaks from work, especially sitting in front of a Chromebook. We have class discussions to check in with each other and practice communication. What we want, is to provide students with a space that they can go to on their own to help manage their day, or provide time for all students to take a brain break and regroup. This serenity center is for two health rooms, so the items requested would be split between three health teachers.
