Our kids have really felt uncertainty in their education, from switching school learning to home-learning, ever-changing mask and Covid protocols, missing staff from illness, and death of loved ones, etc. Many of our students are expressing many symptoms of anxiety without an appropriate emotional label to explain how they feel, or to understand what they are feeling. We need to teach our kids emotional labels, how to use those labels to advocate their needs, and how to manage those emotions within their little bodies. Using kid-friendly books to teach emotional intelligence is highly critical for these kids. Going one step further to allow them to express emotions with art gives them the opportunity to show feelings that they may not yet have vocabulary or labels to explain.
