The chapter books I ordered will provide my students with two excellent books to read as a whole class or in small groups. The thing I like about both of these books is the main characters are both 5th graders just like them. I think when kids read about characters their age it makes the story more exciting and come to life. To keep the books in tip top shape, I ordered the contact paper to cover them. In addition to chapter books, the social studies books will help me encourage my students to understand the importance of history through fun and innovative enrichment activities. Some of the activities require the students to glue things together. I like my students to use permanent glue because it helps things stay glued. I can't order permanent glue sticks from our district warehouse so I thought it'd be a great idea to use this grant to obtain them for my class. Finally, I ordered calculators. I'll be honest, I don't use calculators a ton in math, but when I do, I have to go around to several teachers to gather enough for all of my students. It would be nice to have a classroom set for convenient access.
