  • A Promising Beginning to the New Academic Year

    Funded Aug 9, 2024

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your generous support of our classroom. Your contributions have provided us with essential tools that play a significant role in fostering an environment conducive to learning. These resources are not just mere items; they are invaluable assets that empower our students to maintain their focus and enhance their productivity during class activities.

In today's fast-paced world, distractions abound, making it increasingly challenging for students to concentrate on their respective tasks. However, with the help of these tools, our students are better equipped to block out these distractions and immerse themselves in their work. This focused approach not only aids in their academic success but also cultivates essential skills such as self-discipline and time management.

We truly appreciate your commitment to supporting our educational efforts and helping us create a productive learning atmosphere where students can thrive. Thank you once again for your generosity and dedication to enhancing our classroom experience.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Garcia

  • Pixel Time: Creating a Vision for the Future!

    Funded Dec 5, 2022

Coding was once limited to computer engineers, however, thanks to technological advancements, students can access and enjoy this at their fingertips. This allows them to explore and create high-tech gadgets for educational and entertaining purposes. Students have an opportunity to understand general purpose computer language through developing skills of innovating and problem-solving. Your donations will help them understand the importance of this language. My students are excited about learning how coding is used to create programs they use in their everyday lives. They understand that solution-based lessons are flexible with many opportunities to strategize (there is no one right answer, but many!). They can work together to discuss, reflect, and develop bonds in the decision-making process. Furthermore, this allows them to work on "hands-on" projects in small group settings, which brings out the joy in their lessons.

Coding and programming is a skill with remarkable potential for students to utilize in the classroom and a possible career. Many of my students recognize the potential for coding in creating video games. This includes: steps to create games, the visual aspect, how controls work and apply to the game, creating levels, and testing them!!!

Thank you for your contributing to our class.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Garcia

  • The Calm Corner: A Safe Space!

    Funded Apr 21, 2022

The new Calm Corner has provided students with a safe space to regulate their emotions, manage stress, and practice mindfulness, and most importantly, return to the task or activity they were working on. The students were excited when the materials were delivered to classroom. As a group, they chose the area of the classroom for the Calm Corner, and set up the space together. Seeing the students come together to use the Calm Corner has been such a huge benefit in not only their academics, but social emotional needs as well. The next steps in the classroom is the students' request to turn the classroom in a Harry Potter theme much like Hogwarts. We hope you can contribute to this vision!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Garcia

Students will inevitably exhibit behaviors in class, yet there are few areas for them students to practice their coping skills. A “calm-corner,” equipped with a carpet, tangibles (books, slime, drawing pad, plush animals), and a divider (bookshelf, room divider) that represents a safe space. This tool will allow students to stay in the classroom, rather than be sent to the office or counselor. I am asking for assistance in expanding the calm corner in my classroom. This is a safe space where students can work on their coping skills to manage their emotions and promote wellness. There are instances when students become frustrated during a class activity or with peer interactions at lunch or P.E. It gives them the space to adjust, refocus, and restart!!! I currently have a small carpet and one rocking chair. As my roster has grown, a much larger “safe space” would greatly benefit my students with their social emotional needs and overall academic performance.
